Distillery

3-suur_MG_8260

The manor distillery was completed in 1864–1866 and was of industrial purposes during the manor period, as vodka and spirits were the main source of income for manors in the 19th and 20th century. The entire production was sold in St. Petersburg. During the Soviet era, the distillery housed a sauna, a sawmill and a wood workshop.

The distillery was renovated in 2009 with support from the state of Norway. The house currently also includes a glass workshop and a ceramics workshop, both opened on 2 June 2010. There are also rooms for holding social events, as well as a sauna and exhibition halls for temporary expositions. The permanent exposition includes an exhibition about the history of distilling spirits, and an old glass collection. The products of the Glass Workshop and the Ceramics Workshop can be purchased at the sales point.

The technological base of the Olustvere Glass Workshop is one of the best in Estonia.
